An epiphyte leaves the nest.

I’ve had this Vriesea bromeliad for awhile now, but could never get it to flourish (it had a lovely bloom when I bought it). After doing some research, I discovered it’s an epiphyte: a plant that grows upon another plant.

I recall discussing this plant with my friend Jackie, who told me the “pups” could be taken off the mother plant and planted. I’ve always been hesitant to do that but now I realize, that’s why the plant hasn’t bloomed again.

I guess there’s no time like the present. Here goes my first attempt at propagating. Will report back on my results!
